GayRealEstate.com Promotes the Awareness and Destigmatization of Mental Health Issues
PALM SPRINGS, Calif., September 13, 2019 (Newswire.com) - National Suicide Prevention Week is observed from September 8 to September 14 and, as such, GayRealEstate.com, a service which connects buyers and sellers with compatible agents, encourages awareness and prevention efforts targeting those suffering with suicidal thoughts and tendencies, this week and every week. GayRealEstate.com maintains a special interest in supporting mental health resources among the LGBTQ community because of the increased risk of mental health issues among LGBTQ individuals.
LGBTQ individuals are almost three times more likely than others to experience a mental health condition such as major depression or generalized anxiety disorder, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. GayRealEstate.com recently donated to the OUR PRIDE Video Fest and donates monthly to The Trevor Project, the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth.
OUR PRIDE Video Fest is a collaborative educational program for youth and young adults to create short videos about current issues and significant LGBTQ people, places and events, according to a recently distributed press release. Entries include news stories, short documentaries, creative fiction, music videos, animation and public service announcements in support of The Trevor Project. Students from middle school through college are encouraged to submit one-to-five minute videos that address mental illness, depression and suicide prevention.
With suicide currently ranking as the second leading cause of death for those between the ages of 10 and 24, and with LGBTQ youth almost four times as likely to have attempted suicide compared to heterosexual youth, the “Trevor Challenge” was created to provide a platform and community with the purpose to destigmatize mental health issues and encourage prevention methods.
The GayRealEstate.com team works to identify the best LGBTQ-friendly cities and communities in each state and region of the country and cultivates relationships and deep networks in each, to provide their clients the support they need to find an ideal residency.
