Northwest Arkansas Oncologist Commended for Outstanding Philanthropy

Dr. J. Thaddeus Beck, of Highlands Oncology Group, and Melanie Beck Are Recognized As Outstanding Philanthropists

Dr. J. Thaddeus Beck, of Highlands Oncology Group, Northwest Arkansas’ leading cancer treatment group, and Melanie Beck, will be awarded as the 2017 Outstanding Philanthropists by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Northwest Arkansas Chapter. The Becks will be formally awarded at the National Philanthropy Day Luncheon which will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 at the Fayetteville Town Center.

National Philanthropy Day acknowledges the entire spectrum of services provided by the nonprofit community and recognizes the profound impact that philanthropy has on the fabric of society, according to the AFP website. Each year, AFP honors individuals and groups who, through their hard work and dedication, have enhanced philanthropy, their communities and the world.

The Becks have been generous in the Northwest Arkansas community both with their time, while volunteering to serve on boards and committees, and with their financial gifts. The Becks have been instrumental in supporting many groups and organizations including: University of Arkansas Libraries, St. Joseph Catholic Church and School, United Way of NWA, Walton Arts Center, Symphony Orchestra of Northwest Arkansas, Sunshine School and Development Center, Fayetteville Public Education Foundation, Washington Regional Medical Center, Hope Cancer Resources, University of Arkansas for Medical Science and many more.

Dr. Beck is continually involved in research on treatment options for breast cancer, lung cancer, lymphoma, melanoma, pancreatic cancer, colon cancer and more. Dr. Beck is board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology from the American Board of Internal Medicine. In 2002, Dr. Beck was elected a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Research studies in which Dr. Beck has been involved have been presented at numerous conferences and his research has been widely published in many medical journals.
