Generations Bank Participates in Spelling Bee to Benefit Literacy in Region, Places 2nd

Generations Bank Recently Participated in The Crawford County Volunteers for Literacy Adult Spelling Bee Fundraiser

A team from Generations Bank, an Arkansas community bank with nine full-service locations throughout the state, participated in the Crawford County Volunteers for Literacy (CCVL) Adult Spelling Bee which occurred at 6 p.m. on Oct. 18 at the Van Buren High School Fine Arts Auditorium. The event raised funds for literacy efforts in the region. The Generations Bank spelling team placed second out of the 11 participating teams and their remaining team members placed first in the cheer competition, for the second year in a row.

The spelling bee was hosted to raise funds for continued free education services offered to Crawford County residents. CCVL volunteers assist those with literacy deficiencies which inhibit their ability to effectively engage within the home, workplace and/or community. CCVL has provided free education to enhance skills in reading, writing and math for more than 28 years, according to their Facebook page.

The competition featured teams of three and was judged by the mayor of Van Buren, Bob Freeman, and local businesswoman, Delores Chitwood. Words were selected from the Scripps National Spelling Bee website, according to an article published by the Press Argus-Courier.

The Generations Bank team has proudly served communities in south and northwest Arkansas for more than a century. The financial institution began in 1907 in Harrell, Ark., as Calhoun County Bank and was later known as First Bank. First Bank was recently changed to Generations Bank to honor the bank’s rich history and heritage and to recognize the generations of customers and communities served.

Generations Bank offers comprehensive banking services, including: personal savings accounts, personal checking accounts, loans, mortgages, online banking, mobile banking, business accounts, business loans, online bill pay and more.

Generations Bank enjoyed participating in the fun-filled event and looks forward to continued community engagement going forward.
