The Annual Hogeye Marathon Celebrates 40th Race With Special Guest Speaker Bill Rodgers
Fayetteville, AR, January 4, 2016 (Newswire.com) - The 40th Annual Hogeye Marathon and Relays has been scheduled for April 10, 2016. The Hogeye Marathon is an annual event hosted by Hogeye Marathon & Relays, Inc. The marathon benefits an assortment of local non-profit organizations which support the Northwest Arkansas community.
The Hogeye Marathon and Relays event will begin at 7 a.m. and will include the traditional marathon, a half-marathon, relays, kid’s runs, a guest speaker, a health and fitness expo, and the annual pasta dinner. The marathon will start at the Fayetteville Square and finish at Wilson Park.
Bill Rodgers, National Track & Field Hall of Famer, will be the guest speaker for the 40th Annual Hogeye Marathon and Relays. Rodgers achieved acclaim by winning the Boston, New York City and Fukuoka Marathons.
The Hogeye Marathon was initiated in 1977 with a course starting at the University of Arkansas and continuing to the small town of Hogeye before looping around to complete the 26.2 miles, according to the marathon’s website. As the race grew into an anticipated community event, the course was rerouted to include picturesque views of the Fayetteville area, now including several historic areas of the city.
80 percent of the proceeds from the event will be donated to local non-profit organizations and Hogeye Marathon & Relays, Inc. was recently named the area’s Outstanding Philanthropic Organization by the Association for Fundraising Professionals, Northwest Arkansas Chapter.
In 2015, the event benefited organizations including: American Wheelchair Mission Kendrick Fincher Hydration Foundation, Jackson L. Graves Foundation, Meals on Wheels, the Alzheimer’s Association, and the Children’s Safety Center.
Hogeye Marathon & Relays, Inc. is excited to celebrate its 40th annual event and encourages community members to get out and participate in the races and festivities!
